WHAT WE OFFER

Services

WRC provides services to adult and child survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence. Services are available to significant others who are supportive of the survivor’s right to live a life free from violence and oppression. Services are free and confidential and available regardless of income, race, gender, age, marital, social or economic status, cultural or religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or physical abilities.

Crisis Intervention

Our Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline serves as a point of access for crisis counseling, safety planning, resources, referrals, and intake to the Women’s Resource Center’s Safe House for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Available 24/7, our Advocates provide one-on-one assistance and address rape, child sexual abuse, incest, economic abuse, teen dating violence, emotional and verbal abuse, physical assault, and threats of harm. This includes accompaniment to medical, police, and court proceedings.

Safe Housing

WRC provides emergency safe housing for those women, children, and men who must flee their homes to be safe. Longer term transitional housing is available to assist survivors to secure a life free from violence and oppression. From emergency housing, they are moved into transitional housing and given financial aid for a security deposit, rent, utilities, furnishings, and food. Advocates continue to work closely with them to find employment and eventually a permanent, affordable home of their own.

Legal Support

Our Barbara J. Hart Justice Center provides legal assistance to program participants, including representation, consultation, and court preparation. Services include safety planning, Protection From Abuse orders, child custody, child support, divorce, nuisance ordinances from landlords, evictions, consumer debt, banking and tax issues, immigration issues, and employment cases.

Counseling

Professionally trained advocates provide ongoing empowerment counseling, tailored to individual needs, to victims, children, and significant others. This includes crisis, economic, and educative counseling. Additionally, support groups are held regularly for adults or teens who are survivors of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment.

Systems Advocacy

An important aspect of the Women’s Resource Center is transforming communities through social change so that domestic violence is reduced/eradicated in our hometowns. This includes assisting in developing police and medical protocols, and being a voice for survivors in the civil and criminal legal systems, welfare policy, education initiatives for women, public housing policy, children and youth policies, health care response to rape victims, and holding abusers accountable.
