Medical Advocacy includes the healthcare-based identification of domestic violence, sexual assault & human trafficking victims within the healthcare setting.
Training

Medical Advocacy Task Forces brings together medical professionals from across disciplines in each county to meet quarterly over Zoom to discuss ongoing trends, configure solutions, build community, and engage experts.

The Medical Advocacy Program also offers SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) training, and hosts an annual conference for healthcare providers.

Youth Empowerment
Our team is working to prevent dating and sexual violence in our community. Our evidence based, multi-session, age appropriate programs are interactive, student- and teacher-centered experiences.
The goals of the program are to promote healthy relationships by:
- Building skills
- Raising Awareness
- Changing attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors
- Empowering youth and those who work with them
WRC’s Youth Empowerment Program won the National 2023 Purple Ribbon Award for Outstanding Youth Program.
How does it work?
Trained WRC staff provide all programs at no cost to the school. By using a mixture of information sharing, discussion and activities, these programs aim to improve student knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding healthy relationships. Confidentiality, respect, and other student developed ground-rules are determined so that students feel safe and comfortable in the class.
Programs are offered at the high school, middle school and elementary school level to both students and teachers.

Safe Dates: Grades 8-12
Through 6, 8, or 10 lessons, this evidence-based dating abuse prevention curriculum covers a wide range of topics related to healthy relationships including causes of dating violence, how to help a friend in an abusive relationship, positive communication, and conflict resolution. This program has been shown to be effective in reducing dating violence victimization and perpetration across various demographics in grades 7-12.

Healthy Relationships Middle School Program: Grades 6-7
This seven lesson curriculum promotes healthy, safe relationships including friends, peers and dating relationships. Topics include communication techniques, boundaries, identifying feelings, and how to help friends.

Healthy Relationships Elementary School Program: Grades 3-5
Using the Wee Care Program, this curriculum includes six lessons at each grade level. Each grade level focuses on different topics related to healthy relationships including identifying emotions, communication and setting and respecting boundaries.

Trauma Informed Classrooms and Schools: School Staff and Professionals
Interactive, skills based training for educators and school personnel that help professionals understand trauma, via the ACE Study, and its impact on developing brains. This program also features skills for creating safe classrooms and managing educator self-care.
