Our Journey Towards Inclusivity and Empowerment

For nearly 50 years, WRC has been dedicated to eliminating domestic violence and sexual abuse through advocacy, education, systemic change, and empowering services to all survivors throughout Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties.

While our roots may lie in supporting women, we recognize that abuse knows no gender boundaries. After careful consideration, the decision was made to transition from the name “Women’s Resource Center” to the more inclusive and reflective identity of “WRC.” It underscores our commitment to serving all individuals who seek refuge and support from rape, sexual abuse, incest, stalking, financial abuse, teen dating violence, emotional and verbal abuse, cyber abuse, physical assault, threats of harm, and human trafficking.

Reasons for WRC’s Rebrand

  • Inclusivity: The new name, WRC, reflects our commitment to inclusivity and equality, ensuring that all individuals – male, female, nonbinary, and LGBTQ+ – in need of our services feel welcome and supported.
  • Evolution of services: Over the years, our organization has expanded its services to cater to a wider range of needs beyond domestic violence against women. Our rebranding communicates this evolution to the community, survivors, our partners, our volunteers, and anyone seeking the crucial aid we provide.
  • Fresh look: The rebranding initiative gives our organization a fresh and contemporary look, signaling to the community that we are dynamic, adaptable, and ever-evolving to meet our communities’ needs.

Symbolism in WRC’s New Brand

  • New name: By adopting a more inclusive name, we ensure that all individuals seeking refuge and assistance feel welcome and respected.
  • Color Scheme: The selection of colors in our new branding holds significant meaning. Purple represents domestic violence awareness, teal symbolizes sexual assault awareness, orange denotes teen dating violence awareness, and blue raises awareness about human trafficking. These colors serve as visual reminders of the various forms of abuse we address.
  • Icon: Our new icon, represented by the idea of interlocked hands within a broken circle, encapsulates the spirit of support, community, and empowerment. The hands stand for solidarity and the interconnectedness of individuals seeking refuge and assistance, while the broken circle signifies our mission to break the cycle of domestic violence and abuse.

There’s more! In addition to our new name and logo, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new website, designed to better serve survivors and the entire community. The web address remains the same, www.wrcnepa.org, and it now features an easier navigation system and reflects our new brand, while also making it easier to connect to trainings, volunteer and giving opportunities, and resources to empower survivors and build stronger communities. We are excited for you to explore all that our new site has to offer.  Take a look around www.wrcnepa.org and see for yourself.
