JOB NOTICE

Description of the Position: The Women’s Resource Center is seeking a Legal Director (LD) to manage the civil legal representation component of the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center (JC). The LD manages the overall operation of the JC, coordinating and supervising WRC’s civil legal representation for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual violence in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties. The LD is also responsible for grant writing and reporting for the JC. The LD complies with all funding sources and acts in accordance with the philosophy and mission of WRC, establishing an atmosphere of equality and respect among staff and participants. The LD provides client-centered civil legal representation, including providing legal information, consultation and representation for participants. The LD supervises the project’s staff attorney(s), legal assistants and law student interns. The LD works collaboratively with agency leaders to plan and conduct outreach, training, and systems advocacy efforts for the improvement of the legal, housing, and economic system’s response to violence against women and all forms of intimate partner violence.

Education: Law degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.

Experience: At least 3 years administrative, organizational, or supervisor experience in a non-profit organization, family law firm and/or public interest law firm. Experience in the practice of family law along with familiarity with the court system. Advocacy experience with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

● Demonstrated commitment to ending violence against women and all forms of intimate partner violence.
● Advocacy experience with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
● Demonstrate substantive and special knowledge and experience in addressing violence against women and other forms of intimate partner violence.
● Litigation experience.
● Knowledge of laws applicable to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking victims.
● Knowledge of best practices as it related to legal services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
● Ability to write grant proposals and oversee reporting requirements.
● Partner with domestic violence and sexual assault advocates to address the comprehensive needs of survivors of intimate partner violence.
● Experience working with clients in crisis.
● Experience working with low-income clients.
● A Bi-Lingual applicant is preferred.
