29th Annual Great Chef’s

Bring your appetite and come out to support the Women’s Resource Center at its 29th Annual Great Chef’s Event on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple.  The “Around the World” theme will spotlight appetizers from varying ethnicities prepared by NEPA’s finest restaurants. In addition to the delicious appetizers, patrons can purchase tickets to win spectacular baskets valued at $250 or more all while listening to the delightful music of Ken McGraw.

WRC will once again present the “People’s Choice Award” to the restaurant receiving the most votes (dollars) from attendees. Donations made for the People’s Choice Award will be used by WRC for participation in the Scranton Area Community Foundation Match Day initiative #NEPAMatchDay2019. That means, as you vote for the best food/restaurant, you are helping WRC times two, as every dollar vote will be matched by the Foundation. Additionally, funds collected from the basket raffles will go toward NEPA Match Day!

Funds raised at Great Chef’s support the WRC Safe Housing Program. The Program prioritizes emergency housing options for adults and children who are in immediate danger; or are in a potentially lethal situation due to intimate partner violence, and/or are homeless due to the violence.

New this year, WRC will highlight the Safe Dates Program during the event. Hundreds of area high school students in Lackawanna County have participated in the Safe Dates Program. This series of classes educates youth on how to identify and prevent dating and sexual violence.  Artwork created by students demonstrating the lessons they learned will be on display throughout the venue. Participating schools include: Scranton High School, West Scranton High School, Abington Heights High School and Howard Garner Charter School.
